The Thermalito Union School District is in the process of developing
a two-year Transitional Kindergarten for the 2012-2013 school year. As you may be aware, presently, children who turn five years old before December 2nd may enroll in Kindergarten. However, the new state law changes the Kindergarten enrollment dates as follows:
2012-2013: Age 5 prior to November 2, 2012
2013-2014: Age 5 prior to October 2, 2013
2014-2015: Age 5 prior to September 2, 2014
Because of these changes, we want to be able to offer our students and families a program that will keep them successful and in school.
What is a Transitional Kindergarten?
A two-year voluntary kindergarten program that provides children with an opportunity to learn in an enriching and academically challenging environment that nurtures their growth. Research shows that children who attend kindergarten readiness programs like Transitional Kindergartens are more likely to do well in school and attend college.
Transitional Kindergarten is a bridge between preschool and kindergarten for children turning 5 years old between September and December. It gives young learners a head start, and provides them with an opportunity to learn and grow in an environment that is tailored to meet their academic and social needs.
As we move forward in our planning, we will be sending out more information on the details of this dynamic program and how to enroll your new student.
